The Bridge of No Return

Michael J Downey (c)2006

Won the battle, lost the war.

There’s no common ground no more.

(They say) You can make the Big Switch, you can go or stay.

Na ga go sip jji ana, hachiman, gayah dwae, but go only one way.

(Trans: I don’t want to go, but I have to go)

As I crossed that bridge, what I left behind, where I’m goin’ to I learn

That I can’t look back, when the road ahead , is the Bridge of No Return

Tari ajiktto…Panmunjeom (i)ssoyo. (trans: Even now, the bridge Panmunjeom exists)

Home was on the other side.

Before they made the big divide.

North, South, East and West, and no place to go

(except) Dorah oh ji anun tari ajiktto, ajiktto! (trans: Still, the Bridge of No Return, still!)

As I crossed that bridge, what I left behind, where I’m goin’ to I learn

That I can’t look back, when the road ahead , is the Bridge of No Return

Tari ajiktto…Panmunjeom (i)ssoyo. (trans: Even now, the bridge Panmunjeom exists)
